30 Days of Food Inspiration – Day 23

Day 23: Pizza, cheese curds and game night.

My friend is in town from Tennessee with her three girls (ages 12, 11 and 6). What better place go for dinner fun than the Chatterbox Pub? We had cheese curds and pizza and fries and burgers and played board games and video games. Where else in the Twin Cities can you relax, eat vacation food and take Jenga turns in between bites? Later, we got ice cream at the Edina Creamery and wandered around 50th and France, window shopping.

Great Friday night vacation in the city. Take a few hours to be on vacation in your city this weekend. It’s totally worth it.

Wholehearted Recommendation – Deena’s Gourmet

If you happen upon it at the Minneapolis or St. Paul farmers market, your local co-op or a Kowalski’s store, do not pass up the chance to grab some spicy black bean and chipotle hummus from Deena’s Gourmet. I do not like black beans and I am not a huge fan of hummus, but this stuff has been sent directly from the snack food gods! It’s earthy and just the right amount of spicy and so, so flavorful. Try it with pita crisps or Frontera blue corn tortilla chips (what I just finished scraping the bottom of the container with so as not to miss one little bit).

I am in no way affiliated with the company, just a huge fan of this very local snack dip/spread (made weekly in small batches in St. Paul). One request: If you’re shopping at the Kowalski’s in southwest Minneapolis, please leave at least one container for me. If they’re sold out yet again, I will have nothing to bring to Memorial Day weekend festivities and this is my new go-to take along!

Eat.Drink.Life.Love. — Open for Business

While laying awake staring at the ceiling last night (due to evil Daylight Savings Time) I realized the past year of my life has been filled with all kinds of wonderful. In March 2009, I met an amazing gentleman and we’ve shared lots of moments and memories, together and with friends and family members. Many of them revolve around food. Food others have prepared for us and that we’ve prepared for each other. Our fun often seems to emanate from the kitchen.

I want to share the love.

K and I live in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota). Our first date was at Heidi’s, an amazing restaurant that recently burned down. We celebrated each subsequent “month-a-versary” at a different local restaurant and just made it to the first anniversary of our first date. We are Top Chef junkies and began our journey in the kitchen cooking along to Top Chef Masters. Along the way, life happened. And lots of love as well.

Thanks for joining in the fun.
