30 Days of Food Inspiration – Day 13

Day 13: Making mouth-watering use of farmers market bounty.

I’m not sure I can adequately describe how crazy this week is. We’re eating very few meals at home. So, when life fills up your calendar, the meals you *do* eat at home had better be quick and use the ingredients you have on hand. For us, that meant a whole lot of snow peas from the farmers market. What to do with those?

Throw some jasmine rice in the rice cooker. Saute the pea pods with a little sesame oil in a wok. Make a simple sauce with five ingredients — soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, ginger and brown sugar. Thinly slice some flank steak (or similar cut of beef — if you’ve got something thicker, flatten it with a mallet). Toss the beef into the wok. Wait until it’s *just about* done (three, maybe four minutes), throw in the sauce and the peas. Stir to coat. Serve on top of the rice. Boom. Dinner.

And it was soooooo good, we barely said a word to each other because we were enjoying our food so much. Dinner doesn’t have to be complicated to be fresh, gourmet and satisfying. This is proof.
